something that has happened to me- the obc would give a trans fault and go into limp home mode. the next day the car would run ok,( about a year after we got the car). it went into a main dealer, and was either an afm or the ecu. got them to get a new afm ( the cheapest part first ) 3 days after the new afm the same thing,so back into the main dealer and a new ecu ordered and fitted. one week later same fault. as the bill was over 2 thousand by this time i took it to a small two man bmw garage that had just opened . they had the car for two days and did 150 miles in it ( they did tell me they would run it around with there test kit on ) the fault was traced to the wires to the afm plug connection . total bill £100 , from that point on used them until i left kent . dont know if they are still around ( hartlake at stroud ). so if your car goes into limp home mode one day and not the next check the wires and connections to your afm ( this is for a v8 )
