Hi,

No.1 in a series of idiots question from me, I'm afraid!
When switching from run flats to non-run flats should the tyre pressure settings be the same, or increased since the side walls are less stiff? Alternatively, is it just a case of trial and error and seeing what the wear pattern is looking like in order to find the right settings?

Graham

sadly, as when the cars were being developed, all of the manufacturer recommended pressures will be based upon the tyres they were developed on, e.g. runflats.

My best advice is start off with how the pressures are recommended.

If the car feels ok and drives fine, stick with them, however you can play up and down (in small steps) until you get a feeling that feels what you want. Also be aware that pressure plays a significant role in wear profile, and you wont get any indication of likely wear profile quickly.
Most commonly we say go with the recommended pressures, but the difference in structure of Run flat vs' standard is enough to mean we often need a change.
People fit Standard tyres to improve comfort and harshness of the ride, hence even with the same pressures the car will feel more supple and compliant, hence why would you change the pressures back up to get the car how it used to feel?

Any more queries, don't hesitate come back to me

Jamie
