Hi folks,
I have a 1994 E34 540i that I want to prepare for winter driving. I currently have 17" style 66's from an E39 fitted, however I presume the smaller the better and cheaper for winter driving. My question is this: will 15" alloys fit an E34 540i, or should I settle for 16"? I know smaller capacity E34's came with 15" wheels however I presume the V8's had larger brake discs and/or calipers and not sure if they will fit. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers, Jon Edited by jlarssen - 01 Oct 2011 at 12:36pm |

On the drivers door pillar should be a list of the wheels tyres fitted to that range of cars. Just go down to the smallest dia/width and you should have no problems fitting or with insurance. |

Drive a BMW and you will have a smile on your face every time (and- drive twice as far as you need to !!)

good advice Bernie - on the E34 as with the E39 540 they did have bigger calipers etc but didnt fit Brembo's etc for some reason just fitted a similar caliper to 6 cylinder models....you are welcome to borrow an E34 15" wheel if you are in the south to test fit - but to make sure I checked on the ETK and it lists a 15" rim as possible for the car but suggest you test fit to be sure
lists 17 different wheel options - need to click on each to check sizes and if they say work on your car according to the ETK

Which raises the question to jlarssen, do you use spigot rings with your E39 Wheels when fitted to your E34?
The greater centre bore on the E39 wheels will mean that the wheels are not properly located when fitted to an E34 (or most other BMWs) You might think they will be located by the wheel bolts but this is not the case. If you get an unusual "out of balance vibration it is because the wheel has not mounted centrally.
