If you see pic similar to E30 with bolts underneath - but make sure you have the right tools as dont want to round the bolt off especially if its rusty

Th only snag is that there are a couple of plastic clips which must be lifted to disenagage the bumper skin from the car proper before it can be slid backwards.
While it's off, it is a good chance to remove the rear wheel arch liners and clean out the inevitable mud from beneath them.

Good tip mike. One can also find some RUST behind the liners in water traps---after treatment you can go to town with the silicone around the door cill ends where they meet the insides of the liners.

Thanks for the pointer there Mike - are these obvious when undoing trim etc or is there a special technique to lift the clips without damage?
Many thanks in advance

No - just lift them with a screwdriver.
I suggest that you also remove the front arch liners, to you can wash out the muck which collects between the bodyshell and the 'door sill' trim piece. It's amazing how much gathers there - after cleaning out I sealed my rear liners to the edges of the wing with silicone. Edited by Mike Fishwick - 16 Mar 2009 at 10:05am |
